Sky Soho in Shanghai, China
The office and commercial building in Shanghai is an impressive, well thought-out concept that gives equal consideration to the building envelope and plant engineering. Six Vitomax 200-HW supply the Sky Soho with hot water.
Dynamic, futuristic architecture with forward-looking technology
Sky Soho is one of Shanghai's more recent landmarks. With its impressive dimensions and curved structures – reminiscent of a canyon from a certain angle – the modern building forms a fascinating combination of dynamic, futuristic architecture and forward-looking technology.
Designed by British architect Zaha Hadid, the complex covers an area of almost 350,000 square metres and is located in close proximity to Hongqiao Airport and downtown Shanghai. It serves as an office and commercial building, with 30,000 square metres alone reserved for retail shops and restaurants; a huge 5000 square metre cinema is also accommodated in this enormous structure. In designing Sky Soho, the architect took a completely new approach. On a
plot measuring 480 metres long and 250 metres wide, 12 buildings are linked by 16 bridges. This creates a branched network of spaces that offers the viewer a unique visual experience. At the foot of the "canyon" is an area called the Sunken Garden. This 7000 square metre "garden" is a mix of public spaces and retail premises. The building design also includes environmentally responsible building materials and an air purification system. In addition, 30 percent of the area is reserved for green spaces (the "Green Office").
Thanks to the future-oriented sustainable concept of Sky Soho, the project was awarded "LEED" (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
Viessmann plant technology for high energy efficiency
The integrated concept of building envelope and plant technology ensures a low energy demand. Six Viessmann Vitomax 200-HW hot water boilers with a total output of 24 MW were therefore installed to provide heating and hot water for the entire building complex. The industrial/commercial boilers are noted for their exceptional efficiency and operational reliability.
Like the Lotte World Tower in Seoul, the Sky Soho Shanghai is another architectural monument in East Asia that has chosen to use highly efficient Viessmann technology.
